Acupuncture & Tuina therapists use traditional Chinese medicine techniques such as needling, moxibustion, and massage to relieve pain and improve function.
Daily work
- 01Consult with patients, assess conditions through inquiry and examination, and develop individualized treatment plans.
- 02Perform acupuncture procedures including insertion, manipulation, retention, and removal of needles safely and effectively.
- 03Apply Tuina techniques such as rolling, pressing, kneading, and grasping for musculoskeletal issues.
- 04Incorporate cupping, gua sha, and other adjunct therapies, and guide patients in rehabilitation exercises.
- 05Document treatment process and patient responses, adjusting plans as needed.
- 06Maintain clinic hygiene, sterilize equipment, and replenish supplies.
Ability requirements
Hard skills
- Fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine
- Meridian and acupoint location and manipulation
- Skills in filiform needle, electroacupuncture, and moxibustion
- Tuina techniques (rolling, one-finger meditation, etc.)
- Diagnosis and treatment of common conditions (neck, shoulder, back, leg pain, insomnia, digestive issues)
